Jewellery Care

Jewellery Care

Lanero jewellery is made of various precious metals such as 18k gold, 24k gold vermeil, fine silver, pearls and enamel. To keep your jewellery in the best possible condition, we recommend storing it in the box provided. If you plan on storing your jewellery for longer periods of time, we recommend that you store it in an air-tight, sealable polybag that includes an anti-tarnish strip. Please follow these care instructions for specific materials to ensure your Lanero jewellery maintains its original beautiful condition.

SILVER CARE

Over time, any silver jewellery exposed to air will tarnish. This natural process is caused by the metal reacting to oxygen and high humidity. Silver is also susceptible to damage by chlorine. Tarnish can be treated by using a soft cloth to polish or buff the silver. When cleaning silver jewellery it is recommended to use a cleaning cloth from a well-known brand name. To protect your silver jewellery and maintain its lustre, it is best to store it in a plastic sealed bag to keep it away from oxygen and moisture in the air.

GOLD CARE

Gold can be easily cleaned using a soft lint-free cloth to maintain its shine and brilliance. Special care must be taken with chlorine, as it can permanently damage gold jewellery and can cause serious damage to gold-plated (gold vermeil) jewellery. Gold vermeil jewellery is sterling silver jewellery plated with a thin layer of gold. To protect your gold vermeil jewellery, make sure to refrain from wearing it while wearing perfumes, body lotions and do not expose it to water. Always remove gold vermeil jewellery before swimming. To protect your gold vermeil Lanero jewellery from scratching, oxygen or moisture in the air, store it in the soft jewellery pouch provided and store this in a plastic sealed bag.

ENAMEL CARE

Lanero enamel charms and pendants are made using cold enameling. This enamel is extremely durable and can be cleaned using a soft cloth and warm water. Harsh jewellery cleaning products and chemicals should not be used with enamel jewellery as this may affect the enamel’s original colour. To protect enamel from scratching or chipping, it is best to store enamel jewellery in the special pouch provided with purchase.

PEARL CARE

As an organic product composed of calcium carbonate, pearls need to be carefully looked after. Keep pearls away from chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, hairspray, perfume and cosmetics, as these substances will damage the pearl surface. Pearls can be cleaned using a soft damp cloth and then polished with a dry, soft cloth to maintain their lustre. Avoid using jewellery cleaners as they are too rough and may damage the pearls. When storing your pearls, keep them separate from other pieces of jewellery to prevent them from getting scratched. Store your Lanero pearls in the jewellery pouch provided and never in a plastic bag as these may cause the pearls to deteriorate.
